Piano Man

I love Billy Joel. Andrew and I disagree on this opinion but he is one of my favorites. My girlfriend, Kim, invited Toby over for a play date yesterday. She has a 4 year old sweetie-pie named Emma who has been asking to play with Toby for weeks now. After I dropped him off, Tate and I had our own date...just the two of us...at Kroger's. It was so different to shop with only one child. I guess I was enjoying it alittle TOO much because I heard my man Billy on the intercom radio singing "Piano Man" just as I walked into the Dairy section. I didn't think anyone was around so I sang, "Sing us a song, you're a Piano Man..." But apparently there was someone there because I then heard a man's voice sing "Sing us a song tonight..." I turned and it was a friendly faced older gentleman (not Billy Joel himself, Megan) and he seemed harmless enough to finish the chorus with, so in unison WE sang "Cause we're all in the mood for a melody, and you got us feelin' alright." He said he was glad there was someone else out there who liked his taste in music, offered a few compliments about my Tate and told me alittle about his grandchildren. I walked away smiling thinking I will probably never see him again but was grateful for our impromptu duet and the smile that stayed with me all day!

Aww that's really cute, Chelle. Except, when you said "I then heard a man's voice sing..." I thought it was going to be Billy Joel in Kroger's. How crazy would that have been?

Great story...you probably made his day as much as he made yours. Isn't one on one time great with your kids?

Yes, Megan!!! Billy Joel in the Griffin, GA Kroger would have made the story so much more entertaining!

I'm so glad you blogged about this. This is something I'd do. Marsha, you are right, Michelle and I are both dorks. :)
....and I just love that he sang the second line, what a cool guy.
And I totally understand how terrific it is to have just one of your kids at a time, it makes anything FUN! Even grocery shopping.
Love you....and Billy Joel.

I had the benefit of hearing this story relayed over the phone before reading it here and it was so great to hear how truly happy this little incident made Michelle.

Michelle you're awesome and I wish our families were closer. Not a lot closer, but closer. HA HA HA.

Love you!
